Neon Compliant
Data does NOT have to be boring
Neon Compliant is a Canadian data crunching company with a few twists in its tale.
They offer the same depth of customer insight as the big players, but at a fraction of the price. Not only that, they make the data more accessible and easier to understand for SMEs and charities.
To kind of quote Forest Gump, ‘different is as different does’. And Sarah, the Neon Compliant boss lady, was definitely into doing something different.
She’d developed a brand voice framework with Amy Hawthorne (who’d recommended us to take on the writing, design and build of their new website), which was beautifully bonkers.
So, when we were asked to carry the bonkers baton over the finish line, how could we possibly say no.
Bonkers with stabilisers
Bonkers is a great starting point as far as we’re concerned, but a big part of the job was reining it in a bit. Making sure the eccentricity didn’t get in the way of the communication.
And it was a joy. Turning facts into fun. Turning daftness into clear thinking.
A few amuse-bouche to get you in the Neon Compliant flow
On the inspiration for starting the company:
‘Then it hit us.
(Like a 40-pound salmon in the face, fired from a cannon, from 3 feet – please, don’t try this at home, it hurts).’
On why their data is more useful:
‘We turn those random data blobs into people you can picture – in their workplace, in their street, in their living room, on their sofa, in their bedroom, in flagrante – Too far? Probably. Sorry *Mom.’
On their background:
‘We’ve worked in data since *The Weeknd was a Thrsday and *Drake was a duckling.’
*Half the fun was getting all the Canadianisms right.
Hands across the water
This was a real joint effort. Client and agency in perfect unhinged harmony.
Developing an existing brand look and feel into something even juicier and stickier. Agreeing the site structure together. Meeting online at silly o’clock. To and fro. Fro and to. Nipping and tucking. Squeezing as much out of the words, pics and SEO goodness as we could.
At times it was like herding ostriches, with ants in their pants, that’d sniffed too much snuff. But from day one, we were all fighting the same fight – shaking up the fizz of Neon Compliant’s difference and spraying it in the eyeballs of those who needed it most (can someone please call the analogy police).
The dream team
A massive dollop-y thank you to Amy Hawthorne for the original brand voice guidelines and acting as matchmaker. And to the dollop team regulars that made it happen – Jonathan for his copywriting cojones, Dean for his design do-goodery, and Steve-O for his website wonder stuff.
And the biggest thanks of all go to Sarah at Neon Compliant for being so damned brave, single-minded and trusting. And for sharing the love – “This all looks amazing – honestly, you’ve nailed it.”
Like what you see?
You can gorge yourself on a ton of Neon Compliant website niceness here. And if you fancy a gobbet of dollop love slathered all over your website, gizzashout.
